    FAQ

Notary Public in Thailand: Common Questions

Quick answers for foreigners who need documents notarized in Bangkok or Phuket.

Thailand does not have a separate “notary public” office like the UK, the US or Australia. Notarial work is done by notarial services attorneys, who are Thai lawyers registered for this role with the Lawyers Council of Thailand. When foreigners search for a “notary public in Bangkok” or a “notary public in Thailand”, this is the service they need.

Many foreign courts, banks, universities and government offices accept documents notarized in Thailand, often after legalisation. Requirements vary by country and by organization, so check with the receiving organization first. Tell us where the document is going and we will check the wording, witness and legalisation requirements with you.

Bring your original, valid passport if you are a foreign national, or your Thai ID card or Thai passport if you are a Thai national. Copies and photos on your phone are not accepted. Read more in Proof of Identity for Notarization.

Not yet. Thailand has joined the Hague Apostille Convention, which is scheduled to take effect for Thailand on 28 February 2027. After that date, documents for other member countries will need a single apostille instead of full legalisation. Until then, the current legalisation process still applies. See Apostille Requirements.

Yes. A notarial services attorney can come to your home, office, condominium, hotel or hospital anywhere in Bangkok. Read 3 Things You Should Know About Mobile Notary Services.

The fee depends on the type and number of documents, the number of signers, the location and how urgent the request is. Email a copy of your document and we will confirm a fixed price before you book.
